What is Web Hosting?

Hosting or web hosting is a service that allows individuals and organizations to make their websites available on the internet.

Web hosting usually does not include website creation or development services (unless specified), however most web hosting companies offer website development services.

When shopping around, some important things to look for and compare are:

  • What kind of support is offered?
    • Is support via email, live help, phone, or all of these?
    • Is support offered 24/7?
    • Does support include free scripting help?
  • How many email accounts are included (your_name@your_domain.com)?
  • What other features are included?  Here's a list of some common features:
    • Control Panel software (to allow you to manage your hosting features and website)
